ASU Group visits Seokguram Grotto in Gyeongju, South Korea

The Seokguram Grotto is a hermitage and part of the Bulguksa temple complex. It lies four kilometers east of the temple on Mt. Tohamsan, in Gyeongju, South Korea. The grotto overlooks the Sea of Japan (East Sea) and rests 750 meters above sea level. In 1962, it was designated the 24th national treasure of Korea. It exemplifies some of the best Buddhist sculptures in the world.
It is now one of the best known cultural destinations in South Korea. A viewing of the sunrise over the sea is especially popular.

ASU Group Visits the POSCO Integrated Steel Plant

On 03/18/08, the group visited the POSCO's integrated steel plant located at the port city of Pohang. This was about an hour drive from our hotel at Gyeongyo. The main entrance of the plant greeted us with “Resources are Limited. Creativity is Unlimited’. POSCO is the 4th largest manufacturer of steel in the world. The Pohang works produced 12.6 million tones of steel during 2006. The plant spans over a land area of 8.5 square kilometers and has a workforce of 7056 The plant imports all its iron ore requirements from Australia, and all its coke requirements from Australia, India and Brazil and exports the finished steel products around the world. China is their major customer.
The brochure that they gave us was titled “What Makes us Global” What an apt title for a group that is part of an effort to Globalize the BusinessCcurriculum at ASU.

ASU Group Visits Chung-Ang University

The group visited Chung-Ang University's Seoul Campus on 03/17/08. Dean Vaughn signed a memorandum of understanding with the University to increase ASU's ties with this great South Korean University.
Later we visited Chung-Ang university’s campus in AnSung (about an hour drive from Seoul). Dean Vaughn addressed Dr. Sang-Man Lee class. I have posted some pictures of our interaction with the students.

COBA Students Visit South Korea

Seven students along with select COBA faculty and staff have been selected to travel to South Korea. This will be a 10 day visit to the country, where students will learn about South Korean culture, government, and economics.
